The bridge is a symbol of Lugoj inaugurated in August 1902, replacing the old bridge, which had fallen a year earlier. Through the building of this bridge, the two banks of the River Timiș were systematized. For about thirty five years, this bridge was the only way to cross the river. In the Austro-Hungarian period, the bridge made Lugoj even more populated for being the road-linking between the South-Eastern Europe to the Western Europe
